Thick sealer and how it takes old asphalt and renews it

Sand or no sand?

Sand in the Sealer

Don’t settle for just any Sealcoating- In today’s economic times cutting corners have increased. We refuse to sacrifice or skimp on materials that’s why we use the best products and our mix design gives quality results. Our mix is easy as 1,2,3

#1 -

We start with a polymer modified asphalt emulsion produced by Sealmaster.

#2-

Our sealer is infused with a polymer latex resin additive to protect and enhance resistance against oil and gas, improve surface toughness and anchor in sand for extended wear.

#3-

We top that off by adding fine ground quartz into our mix to help add back the luster and give you Sealcoating the way it supposed to be.

Choosing a sealcoating company who adds sand and additives to their sealer means better results for your asphalt surface.

Some companies will tell you the pump on their machine will not spray the sand well. This can indicate cheap equipment or inexperience. Others will say that sand is not needed and that it wears out their equipment faster. These are only some of the excuses used to cheat a customer out of getting a quality product and end result.

Some reasons others do not use sand and additives:

  • Using cheap material
  • Not having proper equipment
  • Not willing to spend money on product
  • Not aware of the benefits
  •  Cutting corners

Benefits of sand

Asphalt sealer without sand can sometimes create a slick surface especially when wet. It can also create bonding issues between old asphalt and emulsion when little or no sand is used. Adding the proper amount of sand to the mix design has significant benefits such as:

  • Reintroduction of "fines" to worn asphalt
  • Deeper penetration sealing pores and voids
  • Increased solid content
  • Improved traction
  • Improved durability
  • Decreased sun glare
  • Improved appearance

Benefits of additives

  • Latex additive also has numerous benefits.
  • Sealer dries quicker
  • Oil and gas resistant
  • Darker color for improved aesthetics
  • Enables sealer to bond better to the pavement

Consider asking the company  their spread rate and mix ratios.
